The Farm
Healthy Soil = Healthy Food = Healthy People
The Creek is a 800 acre farm located in the beautiful Whitsundays.
Our motto is ‘Working with Nature’ – regenerating our pastures by working with nature is our passion. We care for our cattle and nurture the biodiversity living in the soil. If we let nature work the way she intended, she will continue to keep the soil, the air and our oceans healthy and productive.
Our cattle move regularly through small paddocks called cells following a more natural grazing environment allowing the cows to help restore the soil. As they graze, cows trample over vegetation and push nutrients into the soil. The cow manure and urine acts as a natural fertiliser which in return reduces the use of synthetic fertilisers.
All year round, our aim is to keep our soils covered with plants and plant material (like mulch) which helps with rainfall infiltration and reduces runoff. This plant material breaks down, feeding the biodiversity in the soil and helps keep moisture in the ground through the dry times.
We set out to support as much diversity all over the farm from the living plants on top of the ground and the diversity of microbes and biology living in the soil.
“Soil – Man, despite his artistic pretentions, his sophistication and his accomplishments, owes his existence to a six inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains”
Lance Gillespie
